Kelsea Ballerini

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance and love, especially for those who are grieving. Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, a six-track EP by Kelsea Ballerini that was released on February 14 along with a short film, perfectly portrays that emotion.

The 20-minute clip opens with “Mountain With a View,” in which the 29-year-old sits alone at a breakfast table, as the country diva describes the heartbreak of her divorce from fellow country singer Morgan Evans.

She sings, “I’m still wearing the ring, but I think I’m lying / Sometimes you forget yours / I think we’ve given up trying.” She follows with the equally dramatic songs “Just Married,” “Penthouse,” “Interlude,” and “Blindsided,” all of which are visually depicted, before coming to a close with the pensive “Leave Me Again,” in which she sings, “For a time.”I hope I never leave me again. The shoe fit, but I outgrew it. Staying merely helped me become really good at pretending.

Ballerini first revealed her separation from Evans in an Instagram Story in August 2022. She said in the all-text statement, “I’ve always attempted to share my life with you in a true and sensitive way, while still shielding layers of my personal life as they unfold. “I wanted you to hear from me directly that I am going through a divorce because this is already public record.”

While jointly hosting the CMC Awards in Australia in March 2016, the couple got to know one another. In December of that year, they got engaged, and on December 2, 2017, they got married in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
