Nikki Haley is a candidate for president.

In a video broadcast on Twitter early on Tuesday morning, Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and ambassador to the United Nations during the Trump administration, declared her candidature for president.

Haley positioned herself as an experienced alternative to politics as usual by highlighting her past as a South Carolina native and her time serving as both South Carolina’s governor and the United States’ ambassador to the UN under the Trump administration.

Haley stated, “The Washington elite has failed us time and time again,” before urging a “new generation” of leaders.

Haley listed some of the current challenges to the United States, including China and Russia, while giving a hint to her identity.

Haley, a native of India whose parents immigrated there, is the first Republican to put the late president Donald Trump up for the nomination.
